Amina Coulson-Walters began her dance journey at the age of 4 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The following year, Amina joined a recreational dance program, Ms.Shaquen’s Dance Academy. After two years of training, Amina moved to Philadanco and Gwendolyn Bye, which are two premiere dance schools in Philadelphia associated with professional dance companies (Philadanco and Dance Fusion). There, Amina was exposed to a host of world-class dancers, top directors, and dance legends such as “Aunt” Joan Myers Brown (founder of Philadanco), Gwendolyn Bye (founder), Mr. Robert Burden, Ms. Assata Hazell, Andrea Brock, and Gabrielle Wright.
Amina relocated to Battle Creek, Michigan in 2016 and continued her passion in dance at Dance in Motion Dance Studio (Battle Creek (2016-2019) and later at Ballet Kalamazoo (2019–2022) she was able to focus on both dance education and artistry. While there, Amina was cast in lead roles such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, and competed in YAGP Competition in Chicago, IL. In 2022, Amina joined The Space Dance Co. as a founding member where she is currently a senior member of the pre-professional company under the direction of Cortney Blair and Hailey LaBond.
Throughout Amina’s dance tenure, she has been fortunate enough to be exposed to many emerging artists, in addition to being afforded the opportunity of participating in several summer dance intensives, including Complexions Contemporary Ballet (2022), Dance Theatre of Harlem (2021), Interlochen (2019 and 2020), and most recently, the Young Dancer Initiative (2023 and 2024), and has had the opportunity to work with several renowned artist and pioneers in the dance world including: Joan Myers Brown, Eun Kyung, Seyong Kim, Katie Dorn, Joseph Morrissey, Jurjis Safonovs, Rachel James, Meg Paul (Complexions), TDA Prep, Ailey Extension, Robert Garland (DTH), Amanda Smith (DTH), and Tye Chua Dance (Eugene Chua).
