EMERGING CHOREOGRAPHERS PROJECT

ECP kicks off our 12th season by providing the company an opportunity to perform a new work created by an emerging choreographer. This project is hosted by Young Dancers Initiative and the work will be performed in YDI’s annual December concert.

Meet the 2024 Emerging Choreographers Project Winner,

Rowan Janusiak!

Currently based in Ann Arbor, MI, Rowan Janusiak (they/them) is a queer, interdisciplinary artist creating work that stimulates audiences to question societal standards imposed around pleasure and play. They are a recent graduate of the University of Michigan with dual degrees in Dance and Applied Exercise Science. Currently, Rowan dances with Terpsichore Collective, is a teacher with Dance Church, and serves as Event Manager for Embody Dance Conference. Rowan also performs as a drag artist, creating otherworldly makeup and fashion looks while exercising their dance training and raw performance quality on the stage.

Their recent choreographic endeavors include presenting their work at Midwest RAD Fest, Collage Dance Fest, and Detroit Dance City Festival, where they received the DDCF International Exchange Award. Upcoming, Rowan will be premiering new work for Terpsichore Collective and attending the Rootstock Creative Residency at The Croft.
